Locking all over the world Print E-mail
An Aberdeen-based security firm is celebrating its 21st birthday with a record-equaling £1.2 million turnover, despite the difficult economic conditions.

And the firm, Aberdeen Lock and Security Company (ALSC), has just secured its first direct overseas order – supplying home security systems for an oil-related staff complex in Nigeria.

Managing director Martin Bennett, who completed a management buyout of the firm just 18 months, says expanding the firm into new areas is the secret of their success.

He said: “The firm was very strong in physical security but I’ve got 30 years experience in electronics so diversifying into a number of different areas, particularly in electronic security, made sense. We can now offer integrated intruder alarms, CCTV and access control all in one package.”

And the firm’s figures speak for themselves. Since joining 16 years ago, Bennett has increased the firm’s turnover by over 200%.

ALSC is now geared for growth and Bennett admits he is looking at possible acquisitions in Dundee and Inverness, as well as expanding into Dubai, as part of his exit strategy.

He said: “We intend strengthening our existing markets and cross-selling our products across our existing customer base. We also intend growing the geographical areas we routinely work in. Indeed, we are very interested in acquiring any locksmiths business which may come on the market in these areas.

“We’re looking to take on more staff as well as moving to larger premises over the next few years. We’re forecasting a turnover of £3 million and up to 75 employees over the next five years.”

The company, which currently employees 16 staff, is also looking to tap further into the marine industry which Bennett says will add at least £500,000 to the turnover.
