A computer engineering graduate has been named as Scotland’s most enterprising student.
Former Cumbernauld College student Walter Law (41) scooped the top award in the annual Enterprising Students Awards, aimed at rewarding students and recent graduates who have transferred their academic knowledge to a commercial setting by starting their own businesses.

After working in the glazing industry, Walter decided to look for a career change. With encouragement from his wife, he started looking into computing work.

He now runs WL Computers, a thriving computer services shop in Kirkintilloch, after taking the plunge to buy the business. Walter has also recently secured a contract with John Lewis, helping to install customer-bought computers.

Sponsored by Scotland’s Colleges and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the awards were run in conjunction with the recent Scotland’s Colleges Means Business campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the business support available from Scotland’s colleges.
