Page 1 of 4 High return guaranteed – Investors in People Improvement Programme
How do Scotland’s small enterprises take those vital next steps forward? In today’s tough economic climate, some SME’s are finding it difficult to know who to turn to for support.
Investors in People Scotland wants to help forward looking SME’s make an impact. It has been developing the ideal stepping stone and have set up the Improvement Programme.
This is a structured approach to business improvement. It is a journey of learning where companies undertake five workshops, covering effective management, strategic planning and communications: all aimed at building a culture where people are inspired and business turnover is raised.
High return is guaranteed. A recent independent survey conducted by Frontline Consultants, shows that the Improvement Programme has already made excellent inroads. Organisations surveyed showed an ROI of £409 per employee per year.
96 per cent of organisations who took part in the survey reported fresh thinking around “effective approaches to management which enables a business to proactively identify areas of improvement and change”. The Programme also helped 90 per cent of firms develop a strategy that positions the company for growth.
Third-party endorsement is typified by Jamie Lonie, director of Kindle Design, who said: “Working towards Investors in People through the Improvement Programme has been hard work but enormously rewarding. Its impact has been felt across the entire organisation; from how we sell our services through to our business strategy. The end result is new found levels of commitment, energy and drive that are felt right across the company.”
The impact of doing Investors in People and the Improvement Programme for Kindle Design was that the SME saw a 20 per cent increase in productivity and efficiency; a 15 per cent increase in client satisfaction; and 100% client retention.
Another business which has been involved with the programme is Glasgow Film Theatre. Jaki McDougal, spokeswoman, said: “Investors in People encourages you to get the best from your staff and promote a healthy atmosphere of mutual development.”
What is fundamental about the Improvement Programme is that it is capable of impacting significantly the level of knowledge which in turn leads to a culture of innovation where employees are proud to be working for a successful, growing company.
Investors in People Scotland is offering all SME’s a free consultation to show how the Investors in People framework can help a firm achieve its strategic objectives and how the Improvement Programme can help an SME improve business practice.
