Two Glasgow based animators have created the first educational computer games for babies and toddlers that can be played on their parent’s iPhone.
Will Adams and Dave Sapien came up with the innovative applications after Will struggled to keep his young son entertained on a long train journey.
Working as animators and technology developers, the two men came together to design and launch a digital games company Me and The Giants, with the help of Business Gateway, Glasgow.
The duo founded the company in 2008 and released their first game ‘Toddler Tap’ in November last year. Since then they have developed seven more games under the title Baby Look!
Created with the help of psychologists from Glasgow University, the range of games focuses on toddler parent interaction, education and fun. Every app is designed with the child’s abilities and needs in mind.
Dave said: “I thought it was a great idea right from the outset, as people always have a phone on them and this market has not yet been exploited. Nobody else is designing games for 0-18-month-olds that can entertain and educate.”
Will and Dave strive to make sure their games are educational and stimulating and are also keen to ensure that parents don’t buy an iPhone for their kids, preferring them to use the apps on their own device.
Will added: “We went to Business Gateway as our experience was mainly creative. Not only did they help us brush up on our business plan but advised us on how to secure funding which allowed us to update our computer equipment. They have been a huge help and we are looking forward to working with them as we develop the company.”
Denise O’Connor, Business Gateway adviser said: “We are delighted to be helping Will and Dave with their business. They are creative, innovative and it has been a pleasure to work with them and support them on their way to success.
“We have advised them on their business plan as well as how to market their products. We will continue supporting them as the business develops and we are excited about the future prospects for the company.”
